Are you currently farming on urban land in New Orleans, but need help turning your hard work into a viable business? Learn from the experts at Goodwork Network and the New Orleans Farm and Food Network, who will lead you through the steps of writing a business model and identifying viable markets. If you are losing money or breaking even, this workshop will help you think through strategies and options for becoming more sustainable.
This workshop will cover the following topics:
All the financing opportunities available to farmers including government grants and loans, commercial bank loans and foundation grants. How to develop an enterprise specific business plan, i.e. tomatoes, chickens, etc., to acquire financing to expand those enterprises. Feasibility studies to help farmers create realistic goals for expansion of enterprises based on time, resource availability and cost. How to navigate support offered through the USDA, i.e. qualifying for loans and grants and disaster assistance. Liability insurance and workers compensation. Goodwork network will continue to work with the farmers after the presentation to further develop their business plans.
The workshop is presented by Sanjay Kharod, Executive Director of the New Orleans Farm & Food Network, and Goodwork Network, and organized by Propeller.
