As the field of community resilience has grown over the last several years, and more communities around the country are planning for stronger infrastructure to manage water challenges of all kinds, many professionals see the opportunity to use these projects to further economic development or workforce development goals in their community. In this panel, we will explore case studies from New Orleans, Houston, and New York City to discuss what systemic changes need to be put in place to achieve the overlapping goals we want to see: flood protection, ecological health, community involvement, economic benefits to local businesses and residents, and more.

Presenters:
Colleen McHugh, Resilience Officer, New Orleans Office of Resilience and Sustainability
Antoine Bryant, Urban Planner and Architect, Houston City Planning Commission
Amy Chester, Managing Director, Rebuild by Design
Ted Guillot, Acting Director, Community Planning & Resilience, GCR, Inc. (moderator)
