Propeller’s health ventures increase access to affordable, excellent healthcare and improved quality of life for all New Orleanians by helping entrepreneurs carefully cultivate a strategic mix of revenue streams such as Medicaid, Medicare, commercial health insurance, and other creative earned revenue strategies. Eligible businesses in the health focus area include:

The Challenge 

• Louisiana ranks 49th out of 50 states in overall health, taking into account the measures of community and environment, policy, clinical care, and behaviors.
• The gap in life expectancy between the city’s most affluent and most disadvantaged neighborhoods is 25 years.
• Black women in Louisiana are three times more likely to have a low birth weight infant than White women and almost twice as likely to give birth preterm or experience death of a child under 1 year of age.
• 30% of Orleans Parish residents report not having a regular doctor; the national average is 22.4%.
