Rooted Power Collective helps businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, and academic institutions achieve energy independence through comprehensive planning and economic analysis of renewable technologies like solar, batteries, microgrids, and wind. We engage local community members through educational workshops, facilitate their participation in renewable energy project planning, and develop workforce training programs. Our work focuses on reducing energy costs, building climate resilience, and creating lasting economic and community benefits through collaborative, locally-driven approaches.
Alexis Myers Bio
Alexis is a co-founder of Rooted Power Collective with a PhD in Chemistry and over 10 years of experience in renewable energy. She is passionate about finding renewable energy solutions to the negative effects of climate change. Growing up in a small town on the coast of South Carolina, she saw firsthand the impacts of natural disasters such as hurricanes on aging grid infrastructure. She brings expertise spanning solar, battery, grid integration and energy policy, with a particular talent for translating complex energy concepts into practical solutions. Alexis is committed to ensuring that climate solutions reflect the diverse communities they serve. Her work focuses on helping individuals and organizations prepare for power disruptions while building stronger communities through education and workforce development.
TruCulture is a Black Afro-Indigenous community marketplace and farm based in New Orleans, LA and Hattiesburg, MS. Our mission is to dismantle capitalist racism and its impact on food, health, and economic systems in Black, Indigenous, and Afro-Indigenous communities. We address low access to fresh, chemical-free foods, loss of ancestral healing and agrarian practices, and systemic attacks on cooperative Black economies. By re-educating communities and providing culturally significant food, medicine, and crafts, TruCulture empowers people to reclaim holistic health, ancestral knowledge, and economic sovereignty.
Bailey Hutchinson Bio
Bailey Hutchison is a multifaceted horticulturist, herbalist, and artist born in the historic 7th ward of New Orleans, Louisiana. She holds a Bachelor's in Natural Resource and Ecology Management from Louisiana State University with a focus on conservation biology. She continued independent studies supported by One Family Farm in Trinidad and Tobago and has deep roots in the Caribbean islands and the deep south. In Trinidad, she spent the majority of her time in La Lune village studying growing practices and herbal remedies from village leader Noriga Granger, his daughter Giselle Granger, and other respected herbalists and cultivators. She is a fourth-generation grower and herbalist that specializes in Afro-Indigenous ethnobotany, the study of the traditions and customs concerning plants and their medical, religious, and spiritual uses. She works closely with local and international black and indigenous communities to find creative ways to help regain food sovereignty and normalize the practice of herbalism. The Black School: Design Studio harnesses the global influence of Black youth culture through a model that merges art, design, social justice, and workforce development. We are a design firm specializing in community-centered graphic design services. We use a community-engaged approach to design brands, products, environments, experiences, and systems. It is our mission to apply experimental and iterative creative problem solving processes to real world issues in an attempt to connect with communities and their needs. We believe that a more just and equitable future is possible when we harness our creativity as a force of positive impact.

Joseph Cuillier (b. 1988, New Orleans, LA) is an artist, designer, educator, and social entrepreneur deeply dedicated to art and design’s capacity to connect individuals, communities, and causes. He uses art and design to create spaces for historical and political education and community building. Cuillier’s work has been supported, exhibited, and/or presented by institutions, including the MoMA, Studio Museum,, New Museum, Columbia University, Ford Foundation, and Mellon Foundation. He is the co-founder of The Black School and Black Love Fest New Orleans.

Dooky Chase’s Restaurant founded in 1941 by Edgar “Dooky” Sr & Emily Tenette Chase has become a global cornerstone of Creole Cuisine, offering traditional dishes that reflect the diverse culinary heritage of New Orleans. For over seven decades Dooky Jr & Leah served James Beard Award-wining cuisine, love for community, fight for equality, and unmatched sense of hospitality and love. The Chase Family continues their Legacy and Dooky Chase’s Restaurant remains a stopping place for locals, tourists, politicians, musicians, visual artists, athletes and literary giants.

Myla Poree is the founder and CEO of MRP Coaching and Consulting, - executive and business coaching firm that specializes in providing business development, strategic planning, and leadership training. Committed to continuing the legacy of her grandparents, Myla serves as the Business Operations Manager at the legendary Dooky Chase’s Restaurant where she is responsible for developing and implementing strategies and ensuring operations are running smoothly and efficiently. With over 20 years of experience in organization development, strategy, and program implementation, Myla began her career in 2003 working as a Program Administrator and then as an Acting Director of Sponsored Programs at the Xavier University of Louisiana. She joined TruFund Financial Services, New Orleans, LA, in 2007. She served in various roles, including the Managing Director for the Louisiana Offices and VP of Business Resiliency. In the fourteen years of her career spent here, she played an integral role in the development, implementation, and delivery of all disaster programs at TruFund. Myla hosts a Podcast titled “Momming, Surviving, and Thriving”, she is the author of the book “Why Not Now? The Journey to Taking the Leap and the co-owner of Centre Stage School of Dance that has been operating for 16 years. Myla is on the board of the Edgar and Leah Chase Family Foundation and ACLU of Louisiana.
